For the last 4 months , every day (apart from when it rained) I have recorded a fragment of my tiny Portsmouth garden – this is a watercolour painted “plein air”. When I first started the project I was spending a couple of hours per drawing but the images became more complex and I ended up spending more and more time completing them . More recent paintings have been on single sheets of watercolour paper, which are expensive but well worth investing in because the surface is more robust. My sketchbook is only 195mm square whereas the recent paintings are 320 x 240 mm, which is much better suited to the scale of my garden.
