DAY 2 : 09.44 22.11.25 Medlar DRYPOINT

Yesterday the temperature (or lack thereof)  in my studio was rather distracting. In order to function at all,  I kept making a constant stream of large mugs of tea, with obvious consequences ! Today I am on my second mug and haven’t begun to engage with the infamous DRYPOINT . I have countless layers of clothing plus a gloved left hand, whilst my right hand is firmly gripped around a nice warm mug !

The outside temperature is warmer than yesterday and it’s theoretically a balmy 8 degrees C – although the “feels like” temperature is -1 degree due to a brisk wind ! I don’t have a thermometer in my home studio but I can’t believe it’s much warmer, in than out ! Needless to say, I cannot afford to put the central heating on and it seems rather decadent putting on an electric heater !
As you can see from the above photo yesterday’s progress was slow (and difficult to photograph) but I am looking forward to selecting Radio 4 on my iPad and scratching away a bit more today. Sadly I will only be able to do a mornings work in the studio due to other commitments but that’s probably no bad thing ! For the inquisitive, the white reflection on the surface of my acrylic sheet is, in fact, the white curtain, in front of me and this works nicely, showing up the incised lines cut into the transparent acrylic. Hopefully there will be a few more lines later !
The barometer is going down, 1020 mbar and it’s raining. The wind has gone round to SSW and is 22mph, which accounts for the low “feels like” temperature of -1 degree C ! I’m surprised we haven’t had any snow in Portsmouth yet as it seems to have hit most areas, including Birdham Pool Marina, which is only 20 miles down the road in West Sussex. I apologise for the lack of information about the print but progress has been slow and I am rather preoccupied by the weather (as usual) !

One thing that I have observed over the last few days is that if you like your tea hot, you have to drink it quickly as it goes cold a lot quicker in the winter !
