CLASSES

Sadly, in 2025, the lease expired on my teaching studio and my EXPERIMENTAL LIFE DRAWING CLASS was put on hold but watch this space – I plan to offer a whole range of new and exciting workshops in 2027.

I taught fine art for over 30 years, working primarily, in further and higher education. In addition to my day job, I ran a series of popular life drawing classes, based firstly in Portsmouth Grammar School and then from the Omega Centre in the heart of Portsmouth.

I have been toying with the idea of holding a NEW DRAWING class from the gallery at ARTSPACE PORTSMOUTH, in Brougham Rd,. Historically my life drawing classes began and were run by ArtSpace Education – so it seems fitting that I should return to the fold !
My proposed NEW CLASS is very much in its infancy but fear not – it will be a blast !

What follows are brief details. These are not definitive and I will develop and clarify them over the next month or so.
If you have any thoughts it would be great to have some feedback. Either email chriswoodartist@aol.com or message me from this website.

THE NEW CLASS will focus on DRAWING

THE NEW CLASS will run once a month

THE VENUE for the NEW CLASS will be The ArtSpace Gallery

THE ETHOS of THE NEW CLASS will be to EXPERIMENT with new materials, techniques and processes.

THE NEW CLASS will explore and respond to a wide variety of contemporary fine art practice.

THE NEW CLASS will feature a range of genres and ways of working from FIGURATIVE to ABSTRACT.

THE OBJECTIVES will be to explore new experimental ways to create a body of work. Each session will focus on a different genre/theme and we will gain inspiration from a particular contemporary artist. You will produce a series of artworks in response to a life model and or a installations / still life arrangements

THE GREAT DEBATE : Whilst working as a professional artist can be a very lonely activity, one of the drivers of contemporary practice is debate and we will examine how other artists tap into and become part of a much larger dialogue.

You will be encouraged to show and discuss your work both with your peers and the wider public.

Private one to one drawing / painting mentoring sessions continue and if you are interested please contact me to discuss your requirements

All new courses will be advertised on social media.
