Seeing (and thinking) outside the box

I was looking through some old photos that I took  at the Winchester School of Art Degree Shows and came across “a little me” in a box ! I shot the photo from my chest whilst participating in an audio visual installation, featuring an “Ames Box” – sadly I don’t recall who made it or any other details – all I know was it was probably 3 years ago. The Ames box is not what it seems – it can distort our perception of reality – transforming us into giants or dwarfs. When I was a child I often wondered whether the people on television could actually see me, in my front room. My mother assured me that they couldn’t and I hapilly returned to my Meccano Set (a metal construction set for children in the UK)  ! Here, a considerable number of years later, I was viewing myself, in a box, on television and what’s more I recorded it with the above photo ! Mystery solved – sometimes people on the television can see outside the box !
