Another week DRAWS to a close and we are another month closer to Christmas ! Hurrah !! We are also only a week away from THE BIG DRAW which will take place on 8th-10th October in St Thomas’s Cathedral in Old Portsmouth UK. Over the last week I, along with all the staff at Portsmouth Grammar School have been frantically preparing for the very successful Open Morning that was on Saturday. In between bouts of lecturing at the University of Portsmouth I have been churning out more drawings and filling the walls of the residency studio.

On Wednesday I and Mr Wilcox took a small group of year 10 students to the Cathedral and inbetween showers, the group produced some excellent drawings of both the exterior & the interior of the Cathedral.

The images in this post are all from Miss Croxford’s group and were created a couple of weeks ago. After the drawings were completed I scanned them, then opened them in Photoshop and manipulated the colours and the layers, inverting and making some layers semi-transparent. In some cases I copied the original drawing and changed the range of colours, then enlarged a part or all of the drawing and superimposed that over the original. The feedback from the collaborative drawings has been great and once assembled into a digital banner, they look stunning ! I made a small 2 metre banner for the Open Morning and this is currently gracing the walls of the residency studio. I’ll post an image later. During the BIG DRAW we will produce a selection of hand drawn images, that will be collaged and mounted into two 20 foot banners and these will hang in the Big Draw Exhibition (preview : 7.30pm on 10th October). There will also be a large Digital Banner, a Computer Projection and a series of drypoint etchings made from Renalon and or Perspex. I am also keeping an extra element up my sleeve (for now) but it will involve the audience who attend the Opening of the show – enough said !!

I have just started a large charcoal drawing of the Flemish looking terrace in Lombard Street, Old Portsmouth and depending on the time it takes – it may or may mot make an appearance on the 10th October ! Watch this space – that’s all for now folks ! I have to scan and manipulate hundreds more photos and get on with mapping out my drawing. Keep looking at this blog as I will update it again – very soon !
