Drawing lies at the very core of my art practice and yet my website doesn’t have a dedicated drawing page – I aim to do something about that. I’m not sure how it will pan out but I want to create new drawings and new ways of recording. I might link it to my teaching practice too. I taught life drawing for over thirty years and due to the lease running out on my teaching studio, I stopped ! It’s now been exactly a year since I packed up the drawing room and took my dishevelled collection of easels off to a new home – half went to ArtSpace studio 3 and the remainder are cluttering up my home studio (it’s just as well it’s a large room) !

To return to my thoughts about a drawing page, this was prompted by today’s revisions to my “projects” page and more specifically, “TIME & TIDE”. I was guilty of sharing some older work because it fitted the criteria for the page but it made me think that perhaps it should be about new work not paintings gleaned from the archive.

I have been doing some drawings on spec for a potential new client and I have been experimenting with my use of materials. I am 73 and have been making work since I was old enough to hold a pencil but I am very much still learning how to respond to what goes in through my eyes. Memories form the other side of my creative coin and my responses are often the outcome of a lifetime of looking, analysing and recording. I am always synthesising ideas and this too will play an important role in my quest for yet another web page.

My next flight of fancy is to host a new series of creative drawing sessions at ArtSpace Portsmouth.
